In Response to Daily Prompt: …for tomorrow we die. The world is ending tomorrow! Tell us about your last dinner — the food, your dining companions, the setting, the conversation.
This prompt is hitting a little too close to home right now. You see, a friend of mine died this week. He was 49. Today I attended a ceremony at a local bar for him, a wake.
Before I answer the prompt, I like to tell you why this is timely. Gary was the life of the party. If he was there, you knew you were going to have a great time. Didn’t matter if you were tubing down a river or boogy-ing the night away at a 70’s party, he was the man.
I devote this prompt to him, his bride of 5 months who endured the unthinkable.
Place/Setting: a big white tent strewn with lights on the beach, no bugs allowed! a big u-shaped table so with a dance floor in the middle (I know this sounds like a wedding, but really, um like no way- I just want a lot of people there)
Music: must have live band, funk, pop, country, rock – yes to it all
Food: start off with a choice of Tuna tartar, prepared by Eric Ripert….amazing! mountains of dolmades and/or grilled Calamari (from Stella’s restaurant)
Main Course: rib eye steaks, lobster and/or roasted duck
Sides: choice of sweet potato fries, my mom’s potato salad, salad nicoise, fresh hot rolls like the ones we got in elementary school served with various tapenades, olives of all types
Beverages: Salon Blanc d Blanc sparkling wine, sangria….oh why not just an open bar!
People: all my family, estranged, far away and close family….gotta have them there. All my friends, which for those who really know me….not that many….
Conversation: if it is the end, what can/could be said that would make a difference? I’d rather everyone know how much they were loved…
