Office Decor

As I was getting ready for work this morning and fumbling through a pile of junk jewelry looking for the perfect piece to accentuate my jeans and cardigan, it dawned on me how different this office is on how the women assess each others status and tastes in this office. Your jewelry is the indicator of fitting in….of course no one ever says to you “that necklace is really tacky” or “why do you wear such cheap jewelry?” In this office they are into those big, chunky statement necklaces. Strands of beaded, baubles, colorful, clashing, pair-shaped, plastic, rarely real or … Continue reading Office Decor

It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year!

Mom, you should be so happy you had a family when you did. While being a hormonal handful, your daughter was never on the level of today’s young ladies wants and tastes when it comes to back to school shopping. My knowledge of what was “in” was limited to what I saw in People magazine, TV or my school mates. Now, they have social media and the internet blowing up kids minds with what is a proper school wardrobe. Even the most normal looking of clothes can cost a small fortune because of the brand label. In the early days, shopping … Continue reading It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year!

Flirtations with Fashion

In response to The Daily Post’s writing prompt: “Futures Past.” As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up? How close or far are you from that vision? When I was very young, I remembered making clothes for my Barbie doll. Stripping her naked and patching together pieces of scrap cloth and wrapping them around her to make clothes. I didn’t really play with her like many little girls do, I didn’t see the point. But as a dress mannequin, she had some utility. In the closet in the dining room area hung an Izod Lacoste … Continue reading Flirtations with Fashion

Fashion Rant #4: Check the Labels Closely!

I have finally noticed a marked decrease in the number of guys wearing their jeans at or below the buttocks. Good for those guys evolving out of the prison fashion and hopefully finding something more interesting. Stupid fad and glad it’s going away. However, today I am suferring from what I would call a wordrobe malfunction and am just trying to get through the day without anyone noticing. I noticed yesterday, a co-worker, a guy wearing really nicely pressed khaki pants. It was mid afternoon and he still looked nice and crisp. A few weeks ago I bought what appeared to be … Continue reading Fashion Rant #4: Check the Labels Closely!

Sportin’ Life: Fashion Rant of the Day

Noticing a little pudginess around the midline and having a job where I sit in a cube like veal, I recently started going back back to the gym when this thought occurred to me…  If 80% of women are wearing the wrong size bra guess how many of them are wearing the wrong size sports bra? Yup you read that right… That is 8 out of every 10 women walking around in something that doesn’t fit them- how in the world do they know what sports bra works for them!!!!! Why is this happening? 1. Regular bra’s are really expensive. To … Continue reading Sportin’ Life: Fashion Rant of the Day

What’s in a Wardrobe?

So yesterday, I was fretting over jeans and the lack thereof for women who don’t need to show off their crack, mid-drifts or accentuate the wrong parts of your booty. Today’s first world problem discussion is around the Wishing-For-It -To-Happen outfit. You know that outfit you bought that for that special occasion that might happen. I think every woman has bought that dress or skirt or something she bought hoping that the invite would present itself. I bought it when I use to travel a lot and kept several types of clothing on hand, the office wear, gardening togs, beach … Continue reading What’s in a Wardrobe?

Fashion and Fifty- Do they mix? or should I nix?

Okay fellow bloggers and lovers of all-that is fashion: Here is my dilemma. My company finally started “jeans Fridays.” which would be great except, I rarely wear jeans. I am the epitome of the word “prim.” I like to think, I’m a classic. The last ones I bought I think I picked them up at a designer jeans retailer….and I really should have turned and run out the door when the sales girl told me I looked great in whiskered jeans. For those who don’t know, whiskered jeans have permanent lines going across where your thigh meets your hip. It’s … Continue reading Fashion and Fifty- Do they mix? or should I nix?
